Barebones MMA Championship I

Showcasing pure MMA action, the Barebones MMA Championship made its electrifying debut on July 13th, with our fighters wasting no time making their mark! Much admiration for Aqeelah Salie, Reuben Job, Zaahir Abrahams, and Ameer Gamza, who delivered incredible performances under the guidance of Head Coach Fidaah Edries and Coach Hayden Williams.

Aqeelah Salie made her debut and stepped into the cage against Hopefield’s Seryn “Dippity” Armstrong, claiming a hard-fought silver.

Reuben Job made his debut and dominated his bout against Mecs Martial Arts’ Michael Attfield to bring home the gold.

Zaahir Abrahams earned his spot at the top, defeating Infinity MMA’s Litha “The Martian Machine” Madikiza in a title eliminator to secure gold.

Ameer Gamza went to war for the BMC Featherweight Belt against Pandamonium’s Iviwe “The South Side Ninja” Mphathiswa, walking away with a well-deserved silver.

PFC Promotions

The Professional Fighting Championships made a triumphant return on August 10th, showcasing boxing, kickboxing, and MMA. Fighterz Inc warriors stepped into the spotlight, hungry for victory! We couldn’t be prouder of our fighters Aayesha Majiet, Reuben Job, Zaahir Abrahams, and Zaakir Parker, led by the expert coaching team of Head Coach Fidaah Edries, Coach Hayden Williams, and Coach Eddie Manhando.

Aayesha Majiet made her boxing debut in a high-stakes title fight against Vibrant Sport’s Lisolethu Majalisa. Despite not claiming the title, she delivered a performance to remember and proudly walked away with silver.

Reuben Job took on Vectors MMA’s Jonas Tafara Dondo, dominating from start to finish and earning a well-deserved gold medal.

Zaahir Abrahams faced PFC Gym’s Lorenzo Joseph in a contender bout, showcasing his skill and determination to secure an impressive gold medal victory.

Zaakir Parker battled for the PFC Featherweight MMA title against Jelais Kitoubou. Though the title slipped away, his relentless effort earned him a hard-fought gold medal.

Showcasing the art of boxing, Fight Island made its debut this year on October 19^th, with Aayesha Majiet once again stepping into the ring with a dominant performance winning gold by delivering a stunning TKO victory.

Spotlighting MMA talent, Barebones MMA Championship II roared back on October 19th, and our warriors—Imaad Ebrahim, Aqeelah Salie, Reuben Job, Zaahir Abrahams, and Zaakir Parker—took the cage by storm, leaving it all in the arena!

While the judges’ decision didn’t go his way, he walked away with a silver medal and the undeniable respect of everyone who witnessed his incredible effort.

Western Province Kickboxing Championship

The Western Province Kickboxing Championship lit up October 26th, and our fighters—Uzair Hoosain, Ismaeel Booley, Yusuf Salie, and Mohammad Achmat—brought the heat from the opening bell!

Uzair Hoosain delivered a breathtaking, dominant performance, earning a well-deserved gold medal.

Ismaeel Booley put on a combat masterclass, narrowly missing gold in a razor-thin judge’s decision but proudly claiming silver.

Yusuf Salie showed heart and resilience, claiming a well-earned silver medal.

Mohammad Achmat claimed gold after a walkover, standing tall as a champion.

ADCC African Championship

Showcasing jiu-jitsu, the ADCC African Championship hit the stage on November 30th, with Ismaeel Booley and Zaahir Abrahams delivering electrifying performances from start to finish.

Ismaeel Booley claimed gold in spectacular fashion, showcasing dominance, unshakable grit, and an insatiable hunger for victory. He finished his fight in under a minute with a flawless rear-naked choke—a true masterclass in execution.

Zaahir Abrahams earned his gold medal through a gruelling, hard-fought battle, displaying unmatched determination, resilience, and a relentless fighting spirit.

Vibrant Cup

Showcasing boxing and kickboxing, the Vibrant Cup lit up December 7th as fighters Ghakeem Samuels, Samir Bhatti, Waseem Smith, and Aayesha Majiet delivered unforgettable performances, giving their all in the ring.

Ghakeem Samuels put on a stellar display in his exhibition boxing fight, showcasing his talent and skill with precision.

Samir Bhatti demonstrated masterful boxing technique, dominating his opponent throughout the bout and earning a hard-fought silver medal.

Waseem Smith brought undeniable heart and fire, overwhelming his opponent with an unpredictable and electric fighting style, claiming a well-deserved silver medal.

Terence Balelo: From Swellendam to National Contender

Terence Balelo has an exciting future ahead of him. It starts today with his first trip on an airplane. And that trip will take him to another exciting experience… his first South African National Amateur MMA Championship.

“It feels really great to be part of the Western Province team because this is one step closer to my goal,” says Terence who aims to become a flyweight champion in one of the most popular mixed martial art brands – the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) – in the world.

“Yes, it’s going to be my first time on a plane, I’m a little bit nervous but also excited. Just to imagine a kid from Swellendam being on a plane and representing Western Province in Durban means a lot for me. It makes me excited because it also proves that my non-stop hard work and my faith in God is paying off.”

The 19-year-old up-and-coming mixed martial artist fully deserves to be where he is right now.

When he was younger, he felt the hunger of chasing that calling within, no matter how adverse his conditions may have seemed, and you can tell that his drive and ability are on that “special” level.

“I got introduced to MMA by my friend, Heinrich. I was in grade 10, and from there on I immediately started to fall in love with the sport,” Terence says.

“Being from Swellendam, access to MMA was tough and I really wanted to train and learn the sport, so I reached out to a couple of gyms in Cape Town via Facebook. After one or two rejections, I ended up with my coach – Fidaah Edries – and with no hesitation and with love he said ‘come after you finish school then we can work’.”

Terence – as young as he is – then left his mom’s house in Swellendam and moved to Cape Town without a job or place to stay.

Fighterz Inc head coach and owner, Fidaah, worked out a plan with Terence whereby he works for the gym and gets residency, something that Terence will always hold dear to his heart.

“My coach is the best,” Terence says with passion and pride.

When watching Terence, you would swear he has a strong Taekwondo, Kyokushin, or Muay Thai background, with his athleticism and mechanics – however, he credits “good flexibility” and coach Fidaah’s high-level training.

“We at Fighterz Inc are on a different level now, and coach Fidaah is the best coach in the world… that’s a fact. He pushes me every time, day-in day-out. The mental training is helping a lot as well, and the ability to work the mind is phenomenal,” Terence says referring to coach Fidaah’s Mastermind Peak Performance Programme.

“Coach Fidaah made Faeez (Jacobs, the Extreme Fighting Championship bantamweight king) a champion and he’s going to make me a champion as well.

“I will become the first South African ever to earn the UFC flyweight belt, but aside from my sport goals, my main goals are to give my family a great and secure life, and then also give back to my community, Swellendam being a great human being overall and by keeping on believing in GOD.”

The Durban event will be the second of its kind and will be hosted at CMH Suzuki, Umlanga from today up until Sunday.

“We are very proud to host the first National Championships outside of Johannesburg,” says MMASA board member and KwaZulu-Natal MMA chairman, Justin Ferrier.

“We are looking to make the country proud and hoping for a great turnout. We want to do right by the athletes who have prepared for this – out of province and our own – we hope it’s the first of many we get to host. There will be entertainment, snacks and drinks and non-stop action for all and we are excited to not only cap our next SA Champions but to also find our team to go to the World Championships,” says Justin.

From Gangs to Glory: How Mixed Martial Arts Saved This Young Man’s Life

John Engelbrecht, an 18-year-old student at Alexander Sinton High School, is using his story to inspire others to turn away from negativity and towards the positive influence of sports. Engelbrecht, who once lived a life surrounded by drugs and gang activity, credits mixed martial arts with helping him get back on track.

“This sport keeps me away from drugs and gangsterism,” Engelbrecht says. “I know people who have absolutely no responsibilities on their shoulders. Some of them were friends of mine who tried to influence me into wrong things. But I learned to say ‘No’ and get away from them.”

Engelbrecht’s decision to change his path wasn’t easy. He had to break away from his old circle of friends and find a new support system. But he knew it was the right thing to do.

“The students at the mixed martial arts sport club and my new friends are more goal-driven and responsible. This at least keeps me busy and off the streets. To add, my new circle of friends is much smaller than what it used to be.”
